I recently put together a new build with specs:
i5 4670k CPU
Z97P-D3 motherboard
GTX 1060
500W 80+ EVGA PSU
8GB RAM
and then an old 1TB hard drive I have, with windows 10 and all my old files. This is the first time I've built a PC (previously used prebuilts) so I assumed that I would just get booted straight to the windows activation screen or BIOS.
However, on first boot all I got was a black screen with movable mouse cursor. Thinking that the issue must be the hard drive, I removed it and tried to boot (hoping that I would get sent to the BIOS), but instead not posting at all.
What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?
EDIT: used an HDMI cable plugged into the motherboard
