Please help me... my screen turned black, but my PC is still running. The cause of this issue is the game Warhammer Total War, which will sometimes send you to a perma-black screen while still playing the music / everything else working normally, when trying to Alt+Tab out of the game. So basicall, your PC is running, but you are blind.
It seems completely random what you can do to fix the situation. The first time it happened I could just Alt+F4 out of the game and the screen came back. The second time experimenting around for about 20 min and then pulling the monitor HDMI cable worked. This time it appears that nothing will work.
The PC is still running and I have a GAZILLION of tabs open in private browser windows (yeah I know, REAL smart). So a hard reboot would delete hours of work.
I feel if I could get my PC into sleep mode and back, that would fix things. But how do I do that when I can't see? And no, pressing the power button once doesn't send it to sleep.
