PC was built in August 2015 and this issue started mid to late February 2017.

Hi, for the past month. I've been having issues with a reoccurring black screen.

It started one night I was gaming typically and then suddenly my screen went black, but I could still hear the game and everything else. This happened on several different games I've played.

I also received the asus power surge error twice now. The first time I received the power surge message was on my original video card.

Here's some of the troubleshooting I've done :

1.) I reset pc ("Keep my files") , but did not wipe off everything .

2.) I went into safemode and disabled the AMD Intel display adapters.

3.) I've ran a stress test and everything was good.

4.) I ran a ram test again everything was good.

5.) I checked to see video card/ case was dusty it was relatively good , but still cleaned it.

6.) I purge the old video game drivers and reinstalled the new ones , but black screen occurred again.

7.) I switched the cables to a different set of rails but I still got a black screen again.

8.) I used a different a monitor and same thing occurred . Also note a thick white horizontal bar would appear on my screen after multiple restarts right after the windows logo screen went away.

I download the OSX for EVGA and up the voltage ( it was like a very very tiny increase) for the video card through the settings which a friend recommended ; also increased the fan speed to aggressive because the video card would get hot , but not to extreme levels.

After doing this for three weeks I decided to do a cross ship RMA to EVGA. I got my card yesterday installed it and was working fine. I got home around 12am and played till about 8:30 am until my computer received another Asus power surge message ( this time with the new video card). The computer restarted and everything seem fine so I decided to go to bed and woke up much later that day. I did an update for the game I was about to play and after it finished downloading I clicked the game icon and the screen went black with newly installed video card.

No power signal was the message on the monitor and then the monitor shut off completely. Again I could hear sound, but my monitor was black.

During black screen periods I could still see lights on in the case, hear sound from the game and the discord I use. I heard no weird no noises or anything from my case everything sounded normal. This is with the old and new video card.

If anyone could help and diagnose this it would be greatly appreciated or have had similar problems maybe could see what else on my end I can do help resolve this issue. I really appreciate any and all who are taking the time to read this and help

Thank you!

Whoever your friend is don't listen to them.

A surge generally means an excessive amount of power is coming through, putting the voltage up and therefore pulling through even more power isn't the smartest thing to do.

This would most likely be an issue with hardware not software so the rollbacks aren't going to do anything.

What power supply are you using? It's most likely that or the motherboard that's the issue?

Make sure everything is running on stock speeds and the is no overclocks running.

How can I check the stock speeds? I am using a Corsair - CX Series Modular CX750M 750W ATX Power Supply - Black

What would cause the motherboard to black-screen? I am very novice to this. I just followed troubleshooting directions and that tid bit of advice from the friend regarding the voltage ; which I stopped after reading this.

I checked I am running the appropriate stock speeds as requested. I get thick white horizontal bar across my screen after having multiple black screens around third or so time it appears. Black screen seems to always occur as I am about to play a game with the new video card ( happened with the old one too.

I will be getting a new power supply installing it sometime tomorrow (fyi).

Also my display cables and I am now using a display port to hdmi prior I was using hdmi to hdmi cable. Lastly I checked nothing is overclocked. Also by removing the gpu what will this diagnose? for my own information - thanks again.
