black screen start issues

I can not get my computer to start by tapping the mouse or keyboard. The screen comes up for a second and then goes to a black. Usually after several times of hitting the power button it wakes up for a second but then the screen goes back to black again. After several attempts and some control- alt- deletes I can usually manage to get it to come on and stay but then once I walk away I have to do it all over again and it seems to be getting harder to get it to start. Once I get it up it seems to work fine while I am using it. I have updated the drivers for the computer and the monitor and have Norton Antivirus and there do not seem to be any viruses it is aware of. There is also a weird buzzing sound sometimes when it is flickering between the home page and the black screen but not all the time. Any ideas

Sounds like a bad video card. Take a close look at it and you will probably see blown capacitors, these are most likely the source of the buzzing you hear.
