I have an asus fx53vd. While playing a game, everything froze; couldn't move the mouse, keyboard wasn't responding, and the music turned to a buzzing noise. I did a force shutdown and tried to turn it back on afterward and at first it seemed to turn on, the power light turned on and I could hear the fan but the screen stayed black. I haven't been able to access the bios or anything. I tried everything I could find for similar problems (taking the battery out, holding the power button for 30 secs to a min, and had a friend help me basically disassemble it piece by piece to rule out what the problem could be) but still nothing. Except now the laptop powers on right when I plug the charger in and if I hold the power button for a minute, the keyboard backlights flash on. Unless anyone else has any advice I'm guessing I should send it in for a repair at this point?

Try this...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

You may also want to try hitting CTRL + SHIFT + WIN + B to try and reset your graphics driver as another possible fix.
