black screen Windows 8.1 Trial on custom pc

After installing windows, I restart and find that it ends up at a black screen. I've tried starting with and without the videocard, nothing changes. If I do need to install the drivers for videocard, how would I do it without an optical drive?

I would suspect the issue is with the driver, so please enter your machine through the "recovery mode" by pressing F9 continuously(it varies depends on the brand) then select the option "Trouble shoot". In trouble shoot menu select the "Advance options", and then choose the command prompt.

In command prompt type as "bootrec /fixmbr", after entering the command press enter and get out from the command prompt.

Once you come out from command prompt it will ask you to restart the machine. Go with restart and check whether the issue goes off.

Ok, I was able to start with the Microsoft basic video drivers. However, when I install AMD catalyst, I get the black screen of death half way between the installation and whenever I restart, the black screen awaits. The only way to get video back on is to restart in safe mode and rollback the driver to microsoft basic video.
