Trying to help my brother with his HP Pavilion a6720y pc. The Problem is a black screen at windows(vista) start up. The problem started when he attempted to install a video card. I have attempted to reinstall with his restore disks and with my own windows cd, continue to get black screen. I have read that it may be a driver issue. Not sure what to do next, as I can't see the screen to do anything. I have removed the video card, thinking it may eliminate the problem... Didn't help. Advice?

Solution
Check your optical drives, USB ports, and floppy drives for media. Often times, the "BOOTMGR is Missing" error will appear if your PC is trying to boot to a non-bootable disc, external drive, or floppy disk.

Note: If you find that this is the cause of your issue and it's happening regularly, you might want to consider

changing the boot order in BIOS so the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.

Perform a Startup Repair of Windows. This type of installation should replace any missing or corrupt files,

including BOOTMGR.

Just continue troubleshooting - something will work
