Black & White doesn't run past title screen

With the sequel around the corner I decided to fire up the original to see
why I never liked it all that much. Maybe with a second try I'll see the,
ahem, genius of Molyneux.

Unfortunately, the game won't go past the title screen before quitting back
to the desktop! Anybody have ideas what's going on? I have patch v1.3 and
am running on a P4-3.2GHz / WinXP.

I don't know if this is the problem, but is your hard drive formatted to
NTFS? I heard this was an issue for Black & White.

I've played B&W on an NTFS drive with no problem. (I've also compressed
the files, which is another less common compatability problem.)

It's been a while, but a more likely problem is that KB824141 (a windows XP
SP1 hotfix) causes compatability problems and needs to be uninstalled (or
be replaced with SP2.) If it's not that, then it may need some more
digging to find out what is wrong.

Wasn't patch 1.3 only for Essential Reality P5 Dataglove users?

It doesn't work without it IIRC. You may download the missing p5.dll

,or do a clean install and only patch to v1.2.

Or try enabling the "Disable Internet Weather" setting in the Setup
screen first.

Searching lionhead studios' forums shows this problem is VERY common, and
the broken record solution is to install SP2 which I already have. Anyway,
I give up -- it's not worth the effort.
