Blacked out screen

So after I start up my laptop, I'll login then the screen will go black. Any idea as to why this happens? Or how I can fix it?

Try this.
1. Unplug the laptop
2. Remove the battery
3. Hold down the power button for about 30 secs to 2 min
4. Put the battery back in
5. Then START IT UP
