My desktop started failing to display anything on start-up yesterday after working fine for many moons. I thought it might be an issue with my graphics card, so plugged the monitor into the onboard graphics port, which at least allowed me to see the screen with the option of booting into safe mode (from screen saying previous boot failed, recent hardware changes may be to blame). However, booting into safe mode gets stuck fetching drivers, specifically BtHidBus.sys. I think tried removing one of the RAM DIMMs (I have 2 x 1GB DIMMs). This allowed me to get into Windows. I've since tried various combinations. It seems that I can only use 1 RAM DIMM at a time and it doesn't seem to matter which one, which leads me to suspect that the motherboard may be to blame. I tried various combinations of the 4 slots on the board. Also, attempting to plug the display into the graphics card just produces a blank screen. Any ideas on possible suspects and suggestions for further investigation would be appreciated.
