Folks, ready to plunge in on a vr ready card with the advent of Blk Fri with hopes of eventually affording a headset.

My specs at the moment:

WIN 10 64
Dell XPS 8500
Intel i7-3770
AMD Radeon HD 7800
(RAM)16.0 GB
C:111 GB
D:177 TB

Checking the board I ran across these cards which are in my range and suggested as reasonable:

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING Graphics Card

1607 MHz Core - Boostable up to 1835 MHz
1152 CUDA Cores
Pascal Architecture
3GB of GDDR5 VRAM
8 Gbps Memory Speed
192-Bit Memory Interface
DisplayPort 1.4 + HDMI 2.0b + DVI-D DL
7680 x 4320 Max Digital Resolution
Single Fan ACX 2.0 Cooler
GeForce GTX VR Ready $189.99

I'd very much appreciate comments and analysis on either card based on experienced users.

In addition, I noticed this handy nfo from a board member to someone seeking guidance in similar financial circumstances.

The cheapest VR ready GPU would be the RX 480.

Less cheap: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16...

The NVIDIA option, which is slightly more powerful, would be the GTX 1060 (try to go with a 6GB VRAM variant, not a 3GB)

Again, thanks for all input and time.

1060 6gb > rx 480 > 1060 3gb

if you want a 1060, get a 6gb version

to clarify, all 1060's behave the same if they have a decent cooler on them

simply go for the best deal on a 1060 6gb that has a nice cooler on it, everything else doesnt matter

pre builts have crap power supplies, double check they can run the card and have the proper number and type of pcie cable

Thanks so much. I went with the rx 480. Had I not asked for advice here, no doubt i would have opted for the 1060 3gb for no good reason other than the 6 gb was over my head price wise and the 3gb, well, just "felt" right since it was only a few gb's below the 6 gb and on its face certainly way above the rx 480 (1060 vs 480 :sarcastic:? ). Great reasoning, eh? Which is a wonder why any of us who don't have a lick of tech sense would dare make any move without consulting you wonderful guys . Thanks so much, my friend.
