Blocking I.P./Mac-Addresses Belkin

Ok, so here's the deal. A family member of mine is constantly watching youtube videos ALL the time and makes the internet EXTREMELY slow for everybody else. (I know you may say that watching youtube videos shouldn't slow down the connection this much, but it does! As soon as the device is shut down (device being a kindle fire HD) the speed of the internet triples or quadruples even.) However, when we ask him to get off or stop watching it he just refuses to do so.. So what I want to know is, is there a way to block an i.p. address connected to the wireless router? Or a way to reorganize which devices are prioritized/get more band-width? I have a belkin router with access to the control panel but I don't see anything on there that could really help with this besides the listed I.P. addresses.

Thanks in advance

Is there anything in there for 'parental controls'?
What is the overall speed of your internet plan?

Overall though, this is a human problem rather than a technical problem.

Yeah, you could turn his connection off. Until he learns how to change the MAC address.

No kidding, it is definitely a human problem. Our plan is 15mb/s which seems like a lot but I don't know.

Ok I entered all the Mac-Addresses into this area. All I gotta do now is enable Mac Address filtering >:). Seems kinda evil to say but I can't wait until I see the look on his face when he can't connect to the internet anymore. Mwuahhahahaha

I'll wait until everyone is off the devices and goes to bed to do it, so it doesn't seem suspicious that all the devices have to re-enter the password again while they're using it. >: D Gotta strategize m8

totally would except my computer is currently broken. Some clicking noise that doesn't let it start up, probably something to do with the hdd. I'm using a chromebook right now and we all know that chromebooks can't do s**t

The qos is part of the router, not your PC.

Oh, I thought it was a program. How do I get to it.
You mean like on the physical device or the control panel?

Log into the router. Look around. You already found the MAC filtering.

Belkin is extremely limited in most their routers when it comes to advanced features.... thought maybe that would improve when they bought linksys.

This simple QoS settings in most routers are a waste of time to even bother with. The high/medium/low stuff pretty much does nothing since you have to control over what those terms mean. On top of this it only controls traffic being sent to the internet .....ie upload. Most people have issues with download bandwidth being overloaded. There are not a lot of routers that have the ability to limit the download rates and even then it takes a very special configuration to make it work.

Many times I would recommend to load third party firmware to get advanced features but this is not a option for many belkin routers.

There really is little you can do if your router does not have the features you need. If you look to replace the router tplink and asus tend to have very good software feature and many can load third party firmware if it is still not good enough.

worked for me but I was using ddwrt which may work better than most of the software running on most routers.

I had a neighbor that had no internet but wanted to use my internet but would bog it down.

I was able to specify an upload and download speed to say like 768k down and about the same up.

I put all her macs in there and tested with my mac spoofed and it was working fine.

some routers have issues with qos not working correctly so its a hit or miss on consumer hardware.
