Blown HW on my laptop

Hello!
I occasionally use my Gateway laptop and when I turned it on today, the power LEDs didn't blink and I could feel some burning smell.
So I dismantled it and saw 2 black things burnt. I don't know what they are.
What are they and and how/why did this happen?
Can it be fixed? Possibly DIY.

Maybe it could be fixed but unless you have the knowlege needed to fix it the cost to pay some one else would likely not be worth it. As it's a Gateway, which makes it quit a few years old, I would replace it.
