Hello. I accidentally plugged my psu into 220v socket. I heard a big pop. Burnt smell no smoke no fire. Can I test the PSU by plugging it in the normal socket or is that risky. I doubt other parts are affected
Thank you. The pc is prebuilt from Ibuypower so I have zero idea. There is a switch between 115 and 220v. I'm in north America.Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
What is the make and model of the PSU? Does the PSU have a selector switch for the voltage input? Where are you located and you should be having access to a fused cord or cable for the PSU.
Any way to check? If other parts are gone then I'm kinda *It's dead. It needed replaced anyway, a voltage selector is a good sign it was an ancient design and the fact ibuypower used it ,it was likely very very cheap(they are infamous for skimping on the PSU). There is a possibility other parts were damaged, those cheap old designs can take out parts when they pop.
I have never seen a PSU survive being plugged into 220 when switched to 110. Might be possible to fix with the proper skills but given the PSU's age it's not worth it.Any way to check? If other parts are gone then I'm kinda *

To check everything else you will need a functioning PSU.
I assume atx means small? This is my PC's specifications https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ibuypo...gb-1tb-hdd-gray-black/6289104.p?skuId=6289104It'll work, but the GM is a SFX PSU so if the case is ATX you'll need an adapter plate if you want to use it long term.
Or should I buy thisI assume atx means small? This is my PC's specifications https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ibuypo...gb-1tb-hdd-gray-black/6289104.p?skuId=6289104
So should I get it? I have zero idea if my case is atx or big idk. Can you check? I left best buy link above. It said that the size was standardEVGA GT 650 is a no brainer for 50 bucks.

I would guess you could remove the power supply, open it up, and see something burned. Most likely it won't be a fuse. Btw, don't touch anything inside of the power supply since there could potentially be capacitors which are still charged (highly unlikely in this case, but not impossible).Any way to check? ATX is the normal/most widely used desktop form factor(your case is ATX), SFX is smaller and has different mounting holes. You can use an SFX psu in an ATX case but it requires a mounting adapter.I assume atx means small?
