Blue and yellow vertical lines going through my screen.

I have multiple blue and yellow line vertical lines going through my screen. This all happened when I was playing a game called Dota 2 and then my computer suddenly froze and there were huge pixels on my screen. I rebooted my computer and then the lines appeared. What I noticed when I restarted my computer is that the resolution was changed to 640x480 and that I couldn't change it back to my default resolution which was 1480 or something because it didn't have the option for it. I basically want to know whether or not my graphics card is fried. I looked on the web and found that it could either be my ram, graphics card, or my monitor. I'm 100 percent sure it isn't my monitor and I have a strong feeling it is my graphics card because when I try to play Counter-strike 1.6 in OpenGL it says the software is not supported and it switches me to Software mode.

Do the fans spin up? Um, I'm not quite sure because I can't really see the fan even though I looked inside.

How long until the lines/artifacts appear? Immediately after the system gets past the BIOS page or when the screen says "starting windows." Before that, it shows pixels around the startup.

Can you test another card in your system? No

Can you test your card in another system? No

Does the mobo have graphics? I don't think so.

Do they work OK? I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you're asking if I can use the computer still then yes, but I can't play any games.

Did you try reinstalling drivers? No, I have not. I am going to do that right now.

Should I consider getting a new graphic card now?

Sorry about the 2nd to last question. That was in reference to the previous question about mobo graphics.
There should be a big plastic card inside (maybe 10 inches long, an inch thick, and 4 or so inches wide) plugged in to the motherboard. This is your 9800 GTX. There will be a fan on the bottom. Turn on your computer and see if this fan starts spinning.

Is the monitor plugged into the back of the computer in the graphics card (port will be horizontal) or the motherboard (port will be vertical)? You could take out the graphics card and plug the monitor directly into the motherboard (vertical VGA port). This will tell you if the problems is related to the graphics card or not.

So the computer works until you try to start a game, and then it crashes?
If so, does it crash immediately or after more than a few seconds? (this will tell whether it is lacking power or overheating).

Try running FurMark, a program which stresses the graphics card and logs the temperature. What is the temperature right before it crashes? Does it even get started?

The fan is definitely spinning.

I also tried reinstalling drivers and nothing has changed.

The monitor is plugged into my graphics card.


My computer doesn't crash. The only time it crashed was when the problem initially started. Everything was working fine while I was playing my game then all of a sudden my computer freezes and I see pixels on my screen and after about 20 seconds I could move my mouse cursor, but it was moving super slow. It was like I was experiencing severe lag. Now, that I have the lines going through my screen, I can't even start up my game. I double click it, but nothing happens.

When I try to run Furmark is says "Could not initialize ZoomGPU. Furmark startup failed. Bye!" I think this is giving me a hint that it is definitely a graphics card problem.

I also noticed that in the Device manager it gave me this message about my graphic card. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

man i got the solution solution i have also the same problem what youhave to do is just take out your gpu clean it and plug it in run the computer in save mode and install the nvidia driver version 296.6.
