Blue/green lines sometimes solid blue on boot

I had problems with my PC yesterday black squares appearing when scrolling or when typing, i just ignored it. I previously had a problem, I got fps lags unless I restarted my PC. So it didn't bother me much as I have SSD.

Today I had fps lags so I decided to restart, only this time blue and dark blue lines appeared and I couldn't do anything. I restarted again, and this time green lines. And then another time a solid blue screen. It then told my windows didn't boot properly.

BTW the fps lags started after I replaced my motherboard, added new RAM and bought SSD instead of hard drive.

Did you do a clean install of windows? Normally when you replace the MB, RAM and SSD, windows thinks its a new pc. I would try.

1. Update/ reinstall all GPU drivers and BIOS as required; if its still happening
2. use the igpu (if you are running intel i3 etc.) to see if the problem persists.

If there is no problem on igpu, i would say more than likely the GPU is on its way out. black dots and green lines are most of the time an indication of faulty hardware. If you can afford it, get a pre-owned R9 270 fo about £60

I tried to update my BIOS but when I try to install it, it says it can't be installed because it's a 32bit. In gigabytes site, you can't choose if you want to download a 32bit verison or 64 in the BIOS updates.

are you trying to install BIOS version F9b? Because its a beta BIOS. Try version F8 if its not the one you have. Did you try running your system on the igpu?

Again i think is may be a hardware issue.

Update: I haven't had the issue for 1 whole day so I don't know if this is fixed yet or not. Any ideas how I can check?

Plus you haven't said if the problem is there if you take the gpu out and run the system with the integrated graphics. In order to find the problem you need to run all options. Run your computer with the integrated graphics. If the problem goes away, its probably i gpu or power supply issue. Also what case are you using and what are your gpu temps like? Is it running hot all the time?

Thinking about it, it definitely must be a graphic cards issue. Whenever I run a game that requires high performance, the problem is there. So it has to be the gpu, right?

As the problem does not happen frequently, I am running on integrated graphics, if it happens again, it has to be a PSU problem

3. Motherboard issue

more likely a gpu issue. Try flashing the gpu BIOS. Jayz2cents (youtube) recently did a video were he fixed a broken gpu by flashing the BIOS. Although i would note if you did this wrong you will brick your gpu.

I might actually just buy a new gpu, but I'm scared that the problem will still persist because of the motherboard or psu.

Visual artifacts almost always means GPU failure. It's not PSU or the entire system would crash or shut down. Motherboard unlikely but remotely possible.

If you do not want to gamble on which part is to blame, pay a shop to perform a diagnostic for you and they will tell you for sure which one it is. I believe it is the GPU personally. Drivers would generally cause complete system crashes as well not artifacts.

Just wanted to write to let people know that if you get this issue, it is most likely the GPU that is failing. I ran my pc for 2 weeks on integrated graphics and it never occured. Now that I have my PC running with GPU, it has happened twice over the last two days. I wish I could buy a gpu but because of bitcoin miners, I can't.

Sorry to hear that. This is the worst time to need a new GPU. Lower end cards like 1050 or 1030 aren't as inflated as much as the higher end ones. If you have a higher end card like a 780 or 970 or 280X then that likely going to work.
