Blue Screen due to Hardware Incompatibility?

Hello Mobo community,

I've got a very slight conundrum here with Blue Screens of Death happening randomly and without any warning.

So, I upgraded my PC about a few months ago and I thought everything had installed correctly. I'm fairly confident that I have the right parts and my case is considered compatible with ATX motherboards so I got the MSI 970 mobo.

The issue is that the mobo didn't quite fit the opening slot where the back of the CPU is supposed to "show". It was partially covered by the metal by about 2 inches.

When installing my CPU heatsink/fan, I had to "MacGyver" (AKA use pliers to pull the metal back) the opening in order to correctly screw the heatsink on from the back.

My case is a NZXT Phantom case.

Here are the individual parts:

NZXT Phantom Case
EVGA GTX 980 GPU
EVGA 1000w PSU
MSI 970 Motherboard
G. Skill Sniper 16Gb (8x2) Ram
Samsung 850 EVO 500Gb SSD
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
Windows 7 Premium OS

Is there something that shouldn't be a part of this build that would clash with each other?

I thought I did my due diligence with research but I'm not an expert so please let me know if I fucked up somewhere.

No. I transferred all my old files onto an external HD from my old HDD.

The case is the same but everything else is new (Mobo, Ram, OS, PSU, GPU, SSD).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I then transferred the files from the external HD onto the SSD after I installed the OS.
