[SOLVED] Blue screen of death errors

Hello

For the past few months, I've been having several blue screen of death errors of different kinds when I leave my computer running, or shortly after booting it up. But now, after one of the blue screen errors, my audio service is no longer functioning. (I also noticed my elgato sound capture was not found immediately on boot up, there is a message on every start up.)

Computer specs are:
System model: OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p1xx
Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70 (12 CPU's), ~3.7Ghz
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 18362)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti
32 GB RAM

I've kept track of as many of the blue screen error codes as I can (I'm unsure how to view them all if there is a way.) Here are the error codes I have:

  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION - What failed: win32full.sys
  • Stop code: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (no other information)
  • Kmode Exception Not Handled (happened today right before my audio stopped working)
What I've done to try to attempt to fix the problem (before audio disappeared):
-Updated all drivers in Device Manager
-Ran sfc scannow command in command prompt as administrator.
-Ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image/Restorehealth command.
-After running this command, some files were found that could not be repaired.
These were the files and information that could not be repaired in the sfcdetails document:

2020-10-23 21:11:42, Info CSI 00000031 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:11]'USBHUB3.SYS' of dual_usbhub3.inf, version 10.0.18362.836, arch amd64, nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, type [l:14]'dualModeDriver' in the store, hash mismatch

Hoping for the best. Help would be very appreciated

there has to be an easier way to install sound drivers

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth command:
-After a scan, Powershell prompted:
Repair-WindowsImage : The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired
oh fun

so your on version 1903 of windows 10... that makes it difficult. the fix for the source line is to use a copy of the ISO that matches the currently installed version. 1903 is 3 versions behind the iso version the media creation tool makes now.

updating windows could fix the sound and the error above. The command I got you to run cleans the windows image. this image would be used if you ever did a reset. its also the place SFC gets files to compare against what is installed, and if it is broken, you can't tell if what is installed is right.

On another working PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

once you have the installer, put it in this PC
open file explorer and navigate to USB
run setup.exe
this will offer to update current PC
let it and it will install 20H2 on the PC. It should replace the image completely. it might even include the updated sound drivers.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

copy that file to documents

upload the copy from documents to a file sharing web site, and share the link in your thread so we can help fix the problem

have you run this - https://www8.hp.com/au/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image/Restorehealth command.
-After running this command, some files were found that could not be repaired.
did it ask for source?

If it did, the fix requires a copy of the ISO that matches your current install version. You are on 1903 as 10.0.18362.836 = 1903. If you don't have a copy of the ISO you can't run the source fix. One solution would be to upgrade win 10 to 20H2 which is current version. It should fix the image files during the update. DISM looks after the windows image

Done, I changed the minidump directory from %SystemRoot%\Minidump to C:\Windows\Minidump. There were 5 files already in the folder. Not sure if I should do anything with them. Were you looking for the most recent file, or waiting for the next blue screen?

I haven't run the hp assistant yet. I'll do it today and post what I got here:

-Running the hp assistant file immediately caused a blue screen: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

The restore health didn't specifically ask for a source file. In the cmd prompt, it only said that some files were repaired, but that it couldn't repair some files.

I checked for updates for windows in Update & Security. I'm seeing -
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.325.1556.0)
I'm not sure how I would upgrade to 20H2.

if you have 5 now, show them to us. upload to a file sharing website and show us a link.

20H2 has a slow roll out, you can go here and click 1st link and it will download the upgrade assistant, it might be able to get you to latest provided it doesn't see some drivers that need to be fixed first - https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

you can also download 2nd link, and use it to update but its same process. the 2nd one lets you also make a win 10 installer.

There is definitely at least one driver problem, I think I should fix the problem(s) before I download the update. How can I get my audio driver functioning again after the blue screen's damage?

none of the dumps are overly helpful. So i will suggest updating a few drivers that might help

Update Elgato if you can
not sure you need cyberlink to run webcam, windows may have a driver for it. the drivers are from 2014 so they need updating anyway
newer realtek lan drivers - https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
update or remove Macafee, its all from 2018, its out of date.

those USB errors could be for this -
Oct 18 2017RtsUer.sysRealtek USB Card Reader driver

what bios version do you have? the dump can't see your system info and that can be a sign of an old bios
Surprised their site doesn't scan pc - https://support.hp.com/au-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-880-000-desktop-pc-series/15776604

Is there a software I can download to update these drivers? I've only gone into device manager for this, and I feel I clearly missed some things. I'm not seeing a lot of those drivers there either. In the past (but not on this computer) have used advanced system care to update my drivers. In device manager, I also can't update anything right now.

For the links you posted, which file(s) am I downloading? And, for the USB errors file, is there a link I can get to download that as well, or is it already posted?

My BIOS version is definitely out of date. In system information, it's displayed as AMI F.22, 6/25/2018.

There is no safe software to automatically update your drivers.

I'm not sure that Advanced System Care will update drivers but Driver Booster will and we highly recommend you avoid it. In fact, many people who use it end up here having BSODs that they were not having beforehand.

Device Manager only checks Microsoft's site to see if they have a new version, which they often don't.

You need to go the manufacturers website (or motherboard/system website) and individually update them, one at a time.

Colif may reply to the rest of your questions later.

Thanks for your help too, I didn't know that's how it worked, and I'm glad you looked over the documents as well.

So I need cyberlink drivers updated? I'm not sure how to go about getting those, either, or which ones I need.

And, how can I get my audio drivers working again? My computer can't play sound anymore after the last blue screen.

Help here would be appreciated, thank you again for looking over things.

Only software i would use to help updating drivers is this one - all it does is shows the version numbers which is something lacking from Dump files.

Download and run Driverview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

All it does is looks at drivers installed; it won't install any

When you run it, go into view tab and set it to hide all Microsoft drivers, will make list shorter.

Can you take a screenshot from (and including)Driver name to (and including)Creation date.

upload it to an image sharing website and show link here

you give me that and I will see what I can find.

sound
Does elgato tie into a specific device? is it listed here - https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027961152-Elgato-Gaming-Hardware-Drivers

can you run this for me? it will create a zip file so can you upload it to same site as dumps? https://www.sysnative.com/forums/pages/bsodcollectionapp/

Gotcha, much appreciated.

Driver list: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tV92jYKr4r3yyWD5xbgT1X2Mb9exyZHO/view?usp=sharing
BSOD info: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XEUcaQDqm4DEAQb3WD6wI7GZgQfXHu1e/view?usp=sharing

The drivers should tie into my Elgato Game Capture HD60 (on the list), but I don't think the elgato is the problem particularly, my sound is down entirely ever since the "Kmode Exception Not Handled" blue screen. A little screenshot of that: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15i2ARuqH9acdlyxxEM7xZMW_VsQvHuov/view?usp=sharing

Would updating my BIOS version help? If so, how can I do that?

What am I downloading on the realtek LAN drivers link?

I also uninstalled the cyberlink suite on my computer (though I purchased cyberlink powerdirector, a video editing software, on the side and left it on my computer.) I took the screenshot of the driver list after uninstalling cyberlink suite (which included cyberlink youcam, so I'm assuming that driver is gone.)

What am I downloading on the realtek LAN drivers link?
Win10 Auto Installation Program << thats its name under the windows header, 3rd link down

edit - I asked if you had WIFI and then realised I could just look. What shows as a WIFI adapter on your list is actually a WIreless Xbox controller.

I did notice something odd though, your Xbox controller is showing under network devices, in same list as WIfi and LAN?
it could be the problem still - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_wowpc/xbox-one-controller-wireless-pc-adapter-shows-up/eefc3c91-1871-4869-8730-ca1379e5a764?page=2

seems it can over ride the default lan connection and become the default, meaning while its plugged in you get no internet? can you unplug the dongle and see if it makes any difference? With it in you might get more errors. If WIn 10 thinks your Xbox controller is wifi, you won't be getting many downloads.

other ideas -

Elgato drivers shows as 2019 on there now.

your realtek sound drivers are from March this year.
version 6.0.8924.1

version 6.0.9000.1 is the latest here - https://www.tenforums.com/sound-audio/135259-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version-2-a.html

only audio drivers i can see in there are the elgato, the HDMI audio drivers from Nvidia and the Realtek.

what shows if you click view detailed information?

looking back, i can see the lan drivers will fix a lot of it.
shame it only had 5 minidumps, I can see way more than that.
more recently the windows store is constantly failing to update itself

have you tried these?
right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter

once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
and press enter

SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

Installed the new LAN driver, and unplugged the Xbox One wireless adapter. I'll be sure to leave it unplugged if I'm not using it, though internet connection hasn't been a particular problem. I reinstalled the Elgato driver, and when I was, I was prompted that the current version of the driver was already installed, and gave me an option to reinstall them, so I did.

I was able to get the cabinet file for the realtek sound drivers, but I can't use the method shown to install it.
How to Install a CAB File in Windows 10 <--- this link, under the download link for the driver.
I'm not able to because I have no sound options to update as admin or anything. I won't be able to install that driver until it's fixed this way I think.

Viewing the details from the audio driver screenshot brings up a box with a text document link, that opened up by default with windows internet explorer. I'll scroll the box with screenshots and file share the document to view as a text file:

Scrolling the message (in order):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jo0liwT_nKtPiFHpK_CARAnE_7tJASeE/view?usp=sharing

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BZPf_x_T243M1PULtK382ZtZoDsg9JWu/view?usp=sharing

(not sure why but two of the png links are displaying differently, there should be 4 screenshots of this prompt)

Copy paste of the registry log.txt hyperlink:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kPqUTnFZZ1CFH_WMfH5ZhF0-cRR9SpPE/view?usp=sharing

I haven't used powershell for sfc scannow and restore health, though I have used cmd for both commands. I'll run it and put info about what happens here:

SFC /scannow command:
-After a scan, Powershell prompted, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth command:
-After a scan, Powershell prompted:
Repair-WindowsImage : The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired
At line:1 char:1

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified [Repair-WindowsImage], COMException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Dism.Commands.RepairWindowsImageCommand
(Nothing else was prompted)
Would updating my BIOS help with any of this? I know you mentioned it earlier. How would I do it?
Was there a link for the realtek USB cardreader driver?
Is there another audio driver, maybe something default, that was removed and could be downloaded/updated?
I think this dump is new. It's hard to tell since Sysnative grabs them all, each time and doesn't delete the old ones. Results: https://jsfiddle.net/3u0nrbqg/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.
I can't tell what the cause was stack text appears to be registry commands maybe? given registry fell over, it could just me guessing :)
op might be updating win 10 to 20H2 which fix this at same time.
I can't seem to access the windows 10 media creation link you posted for some reason, or access the link to the tool through google myself. It says my request has been blocked, which is odd. I have no firewall or proxy.
IT works now, the site was obviously down for maintenance or something.
Alright, downloading now. It'll be awhile before it's finished.
Why did you have me do this over a USB?
What should I do after the installation is finished? Should I run another sfcscan and restorehealth?
ITs odd, I watched a video on 20H2 today and they said it will be soon available to public and I am like... I have it now?
What did you ask it do? make an ISO or upgrade PC? I just downloaded the Media creation tool and asked it to make an ISO and its already at finished. Maybe restart the tool?
Why did you have me do this over a USB?
main reason I suggest USB is you only have to download it once. If you use the tool to update win 10, and it fails, you would need to download it all again. I just try to save extra possible steps.
