Blue Screen of Death while playing games

Hello everyone, I'm having this issue since I bought this computer, but it was rare enough that I originally didn't mind it, but now it's starting to worry me that it might be getting worse.

These are my specs:

Intel i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40GHz

RAM 2x 4GB

GPU: GeForce GTX 650 Ti

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits

This BSOD happens mostly while playing games, when I alt-tab out of them, or when I close them completely, but at completely random intervals. I could go a whole week or more without a single crash while alt-tabbing every 5 minutes; or I could get 2 crashes in a row on the same day.

The PC is roughly 8-9 months old. The games I've seen this happen the most are: World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect 3.

At least once, it has happened while idle at the Windows desktop while doing nothing.

If anyone has any idea what might be going on and what can I do to fix I'd really appreciate it.

Usually random errors at any moment are either caused by faulty RAM or a faulty PSU, test your RAM modules with memtest86 (at least one full pass) to find out.

EDIT: looking around for that cdd.dll file, it could be possible that is corrupted, try running from cmd (with admin rights) the following command: sfc /scannow

First of all, thank you so much for responding!

I did what you suggested, the sfc /scannow ran through 3 times but I saw no errors popping up or anything, it just ran through to 100% and then closed itself, is that what was supposed to happen?

I also downloaded and ran memtest86, the report said no errors were found, and I also selected to have an image of what was found sent to my PC, but I can't find it anywhere :/

By the way, yesterday, the 1st time I tried the sfc /scannow thing, I went to close it and got this BSOD, completely different from the others:

That las BSOD points to some corruption in some system file, try repairing your HDD with chkdsk, better if you run it from a bootable cd like Hiren's Boot or even better connecting the HDD to another pc if possible, so to prevent any data corruption should the pc crash while repairing the HDD.

Another possibility could be a virus / trojan though only for that last BSOD, the PSU is still a factor for those sudden crashes, if you can get borrowed another one to test with give it a try.

Check the HDD with Seagate SeaTools for DOS and check the RAM with a bootable version of MemTest86+. Also, run an aggressive virus scan using MalwareBytes. Do a full scan and scan all your HDD's, USB drives, etc.

Hey guys! Thank you everyone for reading and responding to my thread!

I tried most of the solutions posted here, and still got some BSOD now and then (granted, there were less crashes because I wasnt alt tabbing out as much).

I had read somewhere that someone else had fixed his crashes by downloading and installing the latest windows updates, so I tried that, and have not had another crash for 3 days.

I don't know if it's fixed or not since before I had gone months without a single crash, but lately they were popping up a lot more frequently, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Will update here in a few more days to let everyone know.

Just wanted to update everyone that might still be looking at this thread.

It's been almost a month since I downloaded the latest Windows updates, and I have not had another crash or BSOD since, so I'm gonna go ahead and close this down as solved.

window 7 RTM will crash in CDD.dll if you use a current version of a video driver. This was aa known bug in the old code, the fix is to install the windows 7 service pack and updates. it is not a random crash, it was a bug in how cdd.ddl was trying use a buffer with the graphics driver.

Buy Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and do a clean install.
