Question Blue screen on newly built PC

Hello,

I built my first PC a few days ago and today, when I went to get a drink I walked into my room and saw that my PC had blue screened. I walked in right as it restarted so I do not know the error it said.


Is there anyway to check the likely cause? I know it could have been a lot of things but I'm very nervous I broke something while building the pc.

All the components are brand new and are:

CPU: i9 10850k
Motherboard: Asus TUF Z590 with wifi
GPU: gtx 1080
RAM: corsair rgb ddr4 3200mhz
PSU: 1000 watt evga 80+ gold

Things that I've noted:

• I was downloading the witcher 3 from GOG.
• I was running msi afterburner to control fan speed
• internet has been horrible in my area all day
• CPU was not running hot. I gamed for about 15 minutes before started the [played rage 2, max settings 1440p] witcher 3 download and GPU temp was 68c, CPU was around 48-50c

I uninstalled the nvidia drivers and am trying to install them again but internet is slow. The download keeps saying failed about about 10 minutes. I don't know if its the internet or something else doing that .

I know I need to give as much info as possible, I just don't know how to find the error, and when I find the error I don't know how to fix it.

If you installed your motherbd drivers ( https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-C.../TUF-Gaming-Z590-PLUS-WIFI/HelpDesk_Download/ ) then I would make sure you're on the latest Bios. The timeframe between 403 & 405 is too close for 403 not to have been buggy.

I actually upgraded the bios today to ver. 405

After that I turned on XPM after a reboot. I turned that off now.
I also just got done uninstalling nvidia drivers completely. I installed the newest drivers, except this time through nvidia directly instead of GeForce experience.
So far it hasn't happened again.


I've never had a blue screen before so I'm worried. I appreciate your reply.

Should I reinstall windows? I transferred it over from my other computer and updated it

You can type "event viewer" into your search bar (On your desktop search bar) and look through critical logs. This may give an insight into your blue screen, it can be quite quite generic though but worth a look in my opinion

Yes, it's better to do a "clean" installation of Windows

I looked at event viewer like you said and there was 3 instances of a critical error.
The date of the blue screen was: 3/04/2021 @ 6:46pm

I found something else that may be related (or not).

Under device manager and under other devices, PCI device shows up 3 times (as well as SM bus controller, unknown device) all with yellow ! marks by them. When I click update, it cant find an update.

Location: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5 (and the other two PCI devices are PCI bus 0, device 21, function 1)
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.
