if it is a USB wireless adapter, you would have to go to the vendor of the adapter (maybe tlink) and get a driver update. Often for older machines, you will also have to update the BIOS, and USB drivers from the motherboard vendors website.
old for usb 2.x before april of 2012
old for usb 3.0 is before april of 2013
not sure of the dates for the more current USB 3.x versions
often if you move the USB wireless device to a usb 2.0 port or update the drivers for the motherboard USB 3.x drivers you can fix the problem. (assuming you do not have a really old version of the USB wireless driver)
