Let me see if I can decipher this. You were playing CS. You exited the game, or just minimized the screen?

Whichever, the result ... a BSOD. But then, you had a stack dump, (and this is where I lose it) <font color=green>"but the the key words failed moduel ntgrip isnt that the gravis drivers data base".</font color=green>

Are you talking about an error message in DirectX? And what is a gravis driver, exactly?

I'd like to help, bud ... but you need to buy a vowel.

Error logs. Win2K? Event Viewer? How 'bout some system specs, like the video card, driver version, DirectX version, operating system?

I'll assume you have Win2K, since this <i>is</i> the Windows 2000 forum. Event Viewer: Start\Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer. Application Log and System Log.

Have you run DXDIAG at the Start\Run Command Line, and run the display tests?

To disable the Stack Dump: Right-click My Computer. Properties\Advanced\ Startup and Recovery\System Failure Settings.

Have you made any recent changes to the system, like upgrading a driver? Added a memory module? How about your temperatures ... the processor, especially. Are they within the normal range?

LHGPooBaa I have been busy working and all the new trolls around here are too much for me to bother. The whole Intel AMD thing is old now, so I am just farting around seeing what everyone’s doing stuff like that. Plus Tommy really surprised me with the “rip the heat sinks off” fiasco. I tell ya that man knows how to get attention.

But back the real question at hand, trouble shooting my blue screen. First off I am sorry about the spelling I was walking out the door for work when I posted, so no spell check :).

Now I looked into it and "ntgrip" which 2k had said caused the stack dump/system halt. It is the gravis driver database for gravis peripherals in 2k (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\ntgrip). Now the thing that bugs me is the fact the gravis drivers shouldn’t be doing a thing when I am playing counter strike, and then decide to just leave the game (bastard wall hackers). Now for the sys specs;
-Win2k SP2 (all patched to the balls)
-Asus Geforce 2 GTS (AGP-V770 DDR SGRAM v.6.49)
-P3 600e
-DirectX 8.0a (NT)

Now the temperature of the processor I don’t know I cant get a version of Asus probe to work with win2k stable and I don’t know of any software that can do hardware monitoring effectively. P3B-F is my motherboard maybe that will help and you know of a version that will work with it nicely. But here’s another question, I go to system log and I can’t find the crash all. What I do find is warning about not being able to receive a list of domains. But anyways if you need anything else ill most likely check on the forum tonight and I have tomorrow off as well so we can maybe trouble shoot the problem cause I really want to know why 2k blue screened on me cause well 2k just isn’t supposed to do that.

Okay ... cool, now we're on the same page.

But ya gotta admit, that was pretty funny. I stared at that frigging sentence for five minutes, trying to figure out what you said. I even thought about looking at it upside down; but that didn't help! It was like having a minor brain fart. And at my age, I really want to avoid those. <GRIN>

Now ... on to the subject at hand, before I stick another inch or so of foot in my mouth. And considering my screen name, you know that can't be the most tasty of objects. Gravis. Oh, yeah. That. Them. It. Oops.

Peripheral ... what do you have, a game controller, game pad, joystick? Are you using the device while playing the game?

I'm going to assume from the beginning that this <i>might</i> be a driver issue. Meaning that either a file for the peripheral somehow managed to overwrite a protected Windows system file, (which might require repairing the OS with the Win2K CD), or the driver for your peripheral could use an update.

Let's work from the last assumption, first, as it is the easiest to fix.

I'm certain that you already have Counter-Strike fully patched, (right?) but the error message about not being about to receive the list of domains bothers me. Which version do you have? Retail or MOD? Do you also have Half-Life installed?

How much of software bundle that came with the video card are you actually using? Have you considered installing a nVidia reference driver, for stability?

I'll check back tonight. I''ll do what I can to help you troubleshoot the problem.
