Question Blue screening issues. My pc bluescreens at least 3 times a day it seems and i cannot figure out why.

When i look into the blue screens with blue screen viewer i get that it is caused by ntoskrnl.exe+27944d IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. When i look into the dmp file i see that the module name is afd image name of: afd_sys and the failure bucket it is : AV_afd!AfdDerefPollInfoFileObjects and i'm just kind of at my wits end with it. I have updated every driver, I have run driver verifier, i have done RAM test, and disk checks. I have done image cleanup, i have used sfc /scannow and repaired any corrupt files. But i still blue screen.

This usually happens once overnight at like 2 or 3am, and then twice throughout the day. Doesn't matter if i am playing a game, surfing the net, watching a video. It just seems like completely random bluescreens. Any kind of ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .
afd.sys = anciliary function driver for winsock. Windows uses it to talk to LAN drivers so updating those could help

it would be too easy if I could guess it from a file name. Sometimes it works :)
Lets see what they say

report showing you have 2 different sticks of ram - which is odd as they both appear the same to me

its too consistent to be caused by ram. All 5 mention afd.sys
Do you use Ethernet or WIFI?
I can see Ethernet

But not WIFI. I can tell it should exist as you have Bluetooth and most times they are on same chip.

try running this and see if it offers any new internet drivers

Here is the story on the RAM. I had the original sticks of RAM that came with the machine and later bought the TridentZ RAM listed in that URL. I had put them together, but when i started having these issues i thought it might be because of the mis matching RAM so i took out the original and left in the TridentZ.

I do have both ethernet and WIFI but i have the wifi disabled as i don't use it. After the last reply i did look into the Lan drivers again and remembered seeing that it said windows 10 driver on it. I have windows 11 and not sure if it made much of a difference, but i did go to intel's website and download the latest windows 11 drivers for it. So I'll have to see if that does anything. I will try running that program you suggested as well and see if any results come up.

forgot to add the other specs.

Your playing with ram could be why report sees 2 types.
Were you getting BSOD before adding ram?
Could be you wouldn't get BSOD if you swapped in the old ram.

It could be ram isn't compatible with motherboard - I don't see the chipset of the motherboard listed on https://www.gskill.com/configurator so knowing if it works is difficult to judge.

i don't know if there is a difference between win 10 & 11 drivers for intel lan
realtek have different installer/drivers so its possible intel do as well.
I have been on 11 too long to know if I have win 10 or 11 Intel drivers now.

I don't quite remember if it was happening before, but i do know that i have taken the tridentZ RAM out of the machine and have continued to get blue screens before.

Do you use Bluetooth?
I mean, it is a network driver so maybe it was cause.

I wish Ibuypower didn't get custom motherboards as it makes it hard to see what might be old.
I think your ssd is probably from Western Digital based on drivers

I assume its not this
Jan 25 2022acsock64.sysCisco AnyConnect Kernel Driver Framework Socket Layer Interceptor driver (Cisco Systems, Inc.)

The SSD is a Maxtor Z1 SSD, and a Barracuda HDD and then i have a couple external drives connected, one of which is a WD. What you see there is the VPN connection for my work. I do occasionally use the bluetooth for controllers and whatnot, but very rarely. And i definitely agree with Ibuypower's custom motherboards... it has been a bit of a pain. All i could find on the chipset was that it was an intel 300series SATA AHCI controller. Nothing more specific that i have been able to find.

Intel 365 exists
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/189763/intel-b365-chipset.html

you have latest bios. its on an Asrock website - https://www.asrock.com/support/index.us.asp?cat=SIBIOS
wow. ram limited to 2666 and board doesn't support XMP. Thats not very nice.

It's a dumbed down version of this: https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B365M Pro4/index.asp#Download You can download a user manual. You can use the drivers for this board but no software or no bios {drivers only!} (bios is a IBP custom it's version is 1.0 no updates).
You only have ability to add one M.2 ssd, not two. It is a PCIe3 x4 . NOT SATA COMPATIBALE. Ram is limited to 2666mhz and does not support XMP. You can install faster ram. If you do go into bios change ram setting from Auto Detect to manually set to 2666 before installing and booting. There are some other small anomalies with the ability to upgrade and specs.
link

okay, so driver I saw for WD probably for external drive
I haven't heard name Maxtor in years.

I wonder if reason it doesn't have xmp is a money saving thing. They nerfed board so its useful for them but not so great if you want to upgrade. I sort of hate that. Ibuypower and cyberpower both do it, custom boards that they don't upgrade.
Why upgrade them when they work with the things they install on them. No need to think about future parts. Thats not their problem. Its yours.
They learned all the wrong lessons from Dell.

if you get any more dumps, might as well give them to me.

I assume you have run antivirus checks as thats another thing that could set off afd.sys

I have to go soon as its late here.

will do! thank you for your input. The longest this thing has went without a bluescreen is 3 days. So if it gets past that then i will definitely come back and let you know!

I didn't ask you to run DV, it has a nasty habit of breaking windows.
If I had, I would have shown you some precautions - https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/driver-verifier-instructions.3686888/

afd.sys on all 3 again.

No driver verifer errors in there... looks at the last 2 links you gave me, they are the same link... see if you have any others?

about ready to just chuck this thing out the window.
I would suggest you do a clean install of windows before throwing it away. That might be faster than trying to find it otherwise. Don't do it yet.

I am not saying these are cause but I look at drivers and see which have caused errors in past:
Jul 21 2017SteamStreamingSpeakers.sysSteam Streaming Speakers driver (Valve Corporation)
Jul 29 2017SteamStreamingMicrophone.sysSteam Streaming Microphone driver (Valve Corporation)

have you updated Oculus?

its why i stop answering after a while, my ability to think just stops and I look at posts after i had sleep.

an unexpected cause?

Both DV errors blame windows.
Wdf01000.sys = windows driver framework - normally caused by a driver

I would uninstall the Intel updater and see if you still BSOD

I have uninstalled the intel updated, and i have uninstalled the steam streaming mic and speakers, i don't use them anymore. So hopefully one of these will help
