Hello, I have a blue snowball and windows 8.1 and it wont work. Ive tried quite a bit and im hoping you can help me, infact I am counting on it because this site is all I have left before I have to just get rid of it. plus it is a common problem so perhaps it will help someone else.

So my system specs are
I7-4770k
Asus Maximus Vi Hero
Windows 8.1
(I dont think you guys need gpu or anything)

So I have a problem with the fact it just wont work. I am using the realtek audio and 64 bit system I plug it in and it doesent work. Before you say there are solutions everywhere I dont think there is because my pc literally has every webpage possible describing these issues viewed. Ive been to so many sites so Ive done my time. Probably spent 12 hours searching if not more.

I just went through the proccess again to refresh and write down the issues step by step so here it is in order from first step to last.

-Plug it in, nothing shows and nothing in recording tab.

-Device manager has a yellow sign next to "USB audio devices" (Should be blue snowball)

-Under system devices "AMDA00 Interface" has a yellow sign.

-AMDA00 Is up to date (Manufactured by Asustek, not AMD)

-AMDA00 giving a code 19

-"USB Audio Device" Drivers up to date, Code 10, Generic usb audio.

-Nothing in Recording at this point.

-I go to Drivers and Printers.

-The Blue Snowball acutally says the name here but has a yellow sign next to it.

-MY PC also has a yellow sign next to it.

-MY PC says Driver error, troubleshoot. AMDA00 is the issue.

-Blue Snowball driver error, troubleshoot. USB audio devices has the yellow sign.

-Troubleshoot MY PC, says problem with driver for AMDA00 interface, I try reinstalling it and I
allow windows to automatically update my pc through windows update. Issue comes up with
not been fixed.

-I exit that screen and now the Blue Snowball does not have a yellow sign next to it nor does
MY PC.

-Blue Snowball still doesent show in recording.

-No Yellow signs anywhere in Devices and Printers or Device Manager.

-"USB Audio Devices" Changed to "USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0 DAC Device Driver" By "C-media inc"

-Eject Blue to unplug and plug in as nothing is showing.

-HID-Complient Consumer Control device has yellow sign. Drivers are up to date, Device status "No Drivers Are Installed on Device"

-Devices and Printers has Yellow sign on Blue Snowball, Driver error, Please troubleshoot.

-Properties says device is working under device status

-Troubleshooting tells me the device is older and will not work with USB 3.0, it is in USB 2.0.

-I unplug Blue Snowball and move it to another 2.0 USB and it tells me it is still in USB 3.0.

-Now I am stuck and must do a system restore otherwise things will hang and It will become unresponsive.

It Is very very important to mention I just tried it on my sisters laptop, she has windows 8.1 64 bit, Realtek Audio, she had it in a USB 3.0 slot and it worked first time she put it in. Instantly was working. Only issue was when she unplugged it and tried to plug it back in it wasent working but she got that fixed easily.

P.s. I have tried in usb 3.0 aswell. Same issue as 2.0.

Im stuck. Ive done everything in my power other then pay 100 dollars for Microsoft to fix it which I really cant see myself doing as the microphone isent even worth 100 dollars... Maybe after tax.

It does work with windows vista 7 and 8 because it was made after 2011. Thanks for the help!

Solution
So far we seem to have - nothing wrong with the microphone and nothing wrong with the pc.

I'm running out of ideas.

Can you try another microphone? Is there an on/off switch on the microphone?
It's not quire clear whether you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the microphone yourself or just let it to Windows. If not, get the latest driver from the microphone website - download it and install it manually. Then see how it goes.

There are no drivers. It is a plug and play microphone. To be honest ive gone to there website and literally they say it does not need drivers nor are there any for it.

All other USB ports work ok as I have a Light that I just plugged into all of them and it worked. All of my drivers are currently up to date. I use Driver booster and other programs to make sure they are good.

I wish it was that easy, lol. No it does not show up there what so ever. I took out my usual microphone just to make sure it was not interfering with it and nothing.

I have another Microphone which I use commonly it is in my headset which is not USB based other then for power.

That is the only USB based headset I have. there is 3 switches on the Microphone but those are only for switching the style of pick ups the mic uses. (Cardiod, Cardiod -10db, Omnidirectional)

I've ran out of ideas myself too, thats why I am here.

Unfortunately that is not the issue. I actually dont understand how they put it in backwards as mine cannot be put in upside down unless physically modified to do so.

So unfortunately its not that simple either. If it is a problem with my pc what could it be? I built it myself and know most of the ins and outs but nothing seems to be fixing it.

i didnt think it would... but figured i'd list that before i listed other things.

do other usb devices work properly (usb drives, cameras conencted via usb, cell phones on usb, webcams...that sort of thing)? devices which just get power via usb dont count.

have you tried completely uninstalling your sound drivers and usb drivers then reinstalling the usb drivers, restarting and checking? then installing your soundcard drivers, restarting and checking?

are there any shown hardware conflicts for your usb controllers? (device manager)?

you mention that you have tried usb 2 and 3 (but have you tried the front ports AND the back ports?

do this following quotes apply to you?
Snowballs manufactured after July, 2007 (with serial numbers higher than 76-065000) are Windows 8, Windows 7 and Vista compatible. Snowballs with numbers lower than this are not Windows 8, Windows 7 or Vista compatible.
Older Snowballs manufactured from July 2007 to January 2009 with serial numbers lower than 76-065000 are not Windows 8, Windows 7 or Vista compatible. (Snowballs manufactured after January 2009 do not have serial numbers.) Snowball is plug-and-play and does not require drivers, not even for Windows 8.

have you tried using a different usb cable?

does plugging in and then unplugging the device do anything?

Sorry I havent been able to do this lately. Been really busy. I will do them tonight hopefully and get back to you. thanks!

Alright I found something interesting I have never seen before, when I plugged my webcam into my 3.0, it was fine. Worked instantly. When I put said Webcam into another 3.0 port, fine again. As soon as I put it in a 2.0 port, error comes up. driver or whatnot.

So I remove device from Devices and Printers and i unplug and plug it back in, and it installs and works. untill I get back to the 3.0 ports to which I must do that again.

I thought that may work and maybe try that with the snowball but even though i tried that before maybe I did it differently.

So I did so and it just keeps getting stuck and calling my 2.0 ports 3.0, I don't understand it.

so I want to ask a simple yet stupid question, I built my own pc, I did driver stuff before but I can not for the life of me figure out how to un-install and install drivers. Do you have any idea using the mobo I am? I just am blanking and I cant find anything on it. I downloaded the drivers from the website, I always thought there was a program you could do said things but maybe I am wrong.

Those quotes do not apply, I have tried front 3.0 ports back 3.0 and back 2.0 which are the only ones available. I have tried another cord, although this one worked on my sisters laptop.

So right now I just need to try the usb and soundcard issue. I feel like that may do something, I have the asus vi hero. I will continue to look for info on this until a reply. Thank you!

also have you had the issue of changing from 3.0 to 2.0 and it needing a full reinstall of the plug and play device?

it definitely sounds like a usb driver issue or device conflict issue on your computer.

hmm... this is a short but interesting read http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/19650-fixing-usb-3-0-ports-in-windows-8

drivers you installed for the usb host controller should be listed in "uninstall a program" in control panel along with all your other programs. after reading the prior link perhaps try the method of using the default usb drivers included in windows8. if that doesnt work then use whatever newest drivers are out for your motherboard.

another good read states that certain programs can affect the usb drives. do you have any programs (likely which came on the motherboard disk) which affect the usb slots? any that try to speed it up, fast charge or affect it in any way could be causing the issue.
In my case the source of the problem was an application I used to charge iPad in Windows 7 - Asus AI charger. It's driver casts all USB in Windows 8 unoperable. The issue is due to the AI Charger+ software causing an incompatibility. The solution is to install the newer version

while i'm not using the snowball mic myself.. i've never had any issues with any of my usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports and any plug and play devices i do own.

I did as it said and I came back on and nothing really changed. Other then now I am missing some programs that were related to usb software. No installation of drivers as I restarted my PC.

I went through the programs and features (uninstall a program) and IO bit uninstaller which is another program to power erase programs. Nothing else in there that seems like it would have anything to do with that.

Im not sure how to use the default drivers as when I go to device manager and click ot uninstall my Realktek hd audio drivers the program becomes unresponsive. Unable to do said task.

My AMDA00 still has a yellow mark but I try to update it and nothing seems to work.

I do not believe I have any programs that could be affecting it although I did just (20 min ago perhaps) install AI suite 3, but even when I installed it the first time when I built the pc it worked for a day then would never open. At this point It is telling me to restart and try again to uninstall which I plan on doing right now.

I'm getting to the point I want to do a complete format and all but I dont want to lose all my notepad stuff or programs... I dont know if I just shouldent be using a pc because Im not intelligent enough or its just like nuclear physicist stuff. Its hard.

Go to ASIO4ALL website "Google it", install the latest drivers. After you're done make sure that the microphone is in USB 2.0. Please post if this helped (worked for me).

Nope, the correct thing for me was to buy a new one.... The old one worked on every single pc but mine, which was odd.... All forms of pcs, different os and all..

Ehh, Thats what worked for me 😛

Unfortunately I tried that, either someone in this post recommended the Aso site and it didnt work.

I think I just gave it away to someone who could use it. Lol

Quite sad that it didn't work, probably it is your pc's fault. If you wouldn't have given it away I would have happily bought it from you 😀.

I doubt it was the pc's fault as it is brand new and has quality components worth over 4 grand XD but knowing shipping it would have been more then it was worth.

If your mic serial # is lower than 65000 then it is incompatible with anything beyond XP32. It seems to be a hardware issue, best case firmware that "could" be updated, but Blue isn't updating them any more. Evidently they were, but stopped in 2010. Some folks have had success running Win 7 in XP32 emulation mode, while other's haven't (could be user error at that point, hard to say). If that doesn't work for you, either run XP32 or buy a newer mic.

Hi,
Nothing worked for me. All the videos on YouTube. All the forums I had browsed, nothing. But today had happened something, which helped me to make my Blue Snowball working and it is fixed now. Here is whad I have done:

LENOVO Y500
Win 8.1 x64
Intel Chipset
2x USB 3.0
1x USB 2.0

STEP 1
Partial recovery of the Windows made through Windows 8.1 option called "Restart with additional settings". And these settings I have made just actualy that partial recovery which re-installs the whole Windows 8.1 64-bit onto Windows 8 64-bit (for my case of default state). Literally back to the default state I received it after buying it.
All documents (Documents, Music, Videos, Pics, other Disc Partitions or other SSD's...etc.) are still the same after
re-instal, so do not worry doing it.
THE ONLY THING WHICH DISAPEARS IS EVERYTHING WHICH IS/WAS THE INSTALLED SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER. So prepare yourself to re-install all the packages like Microsoft Office again, Adobe Creative Suite (if you have any), video player (if you have some better than the Windows one :-D ), etc. ...

STEP 2
After re-instalation do all necessary Windows Update procedure first. It will download the new or latest driver necessary for Blue Snowball to be fully working dispite of all possible issues called Audio Endpoint Driver Installer.inf It serves for all known Windows systems, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP at 32/64-bits, depending on your current Windows installation.

STEP 3
After all restarts made by the system during all updates, connect your Blue Snowball microphone to a 2.0 USB SLOT !!!!
DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM INSTALL BLUE SNOWBALL'S DRIVERS ONTO THE 3.0 USB SLOT !!!

STEP 4
All done. Enjoy your mic. Thank you for your attention. 🙂

Aditional info: Here, on this address, you can nicely see all the latest *.INF files related to this problém with Blue Microphones on all the PC platforms: http://www.driverscape.com/download/audio-endpoint

How interesting, that the Macs never experienced such issues - ever! 😀 :-/

Take care guys! ;-)
