BlueGears/HDA Digital XMYSTIQUE7.1

May 19, 2001
I bought (Newegg - $89) the BlueGears/HDA Digital XMYSTIQUE 7.1 (along with the Logitech Z5500 speakers) sound card (to replace my aging Sound Blaster Live Value) this past weekend and am expecting arrival this coming weekend.

Anybody here have any experience with this card/combo?

I plan on connecting the XMYSTIQUE7.1 to the Z5500's using one of the two digital inputs (Optical/Coaxial), most likely the Coaxial and connect my Sony DVPS550D DVD Player to the Optical input. Although I couldn't find anything to the contrary in the Z5500 manual, I assume you can connect to both digital inputs with no problems. Anybody? If not, I'll go with analog connections from the sound card.

BTW: I chose not to pay $200+ for an X-Fi variant (Platinum, Fatal1ty) whose FPS I/O Drive won't allow me to close the door on my Thermaltake Tsunami case. Besides, I'd rather use the $ to upgrade my CPU to a (San Diego) Athlon64 4000+.
