Question bluescreen removes graphics card driver

Aug 26, 2020
Hello everyone,

I'm facing an annoying bluescreen. I bought a new laptop.
RTX 2070

Just kept the pre-install and installed some games.
Played everything just fine. After 2 weeks I got a bluescreen.
video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error was the error code.

When I came back I restarted the game (world of warcraft) and I had massive FPS decrease.
So I started checking, apparantly my RTX 2070 wasn't visible in device manager.
I tried to re-install it, didn't work because nvidia said the driver wasn't compatible with my system.

So I tried a clean install of windows. First using the reset option in windows 10, didn't work. Then I tried a clean install using a bootable USB and fully deleting all partitions.
DIdn't work either, so I contacted the store I bought the laptop from.

After a ton of issues with them I got the laptop back and 2 weeks later, same issue. BUT, I did notice that resetting BIOS to default (even tho I changed nothing in BIOS) makes the RTX 2070 show again in device manager.

Now I got a new laptop from them:
otherwise same specs.

2 weeks in, same issue. So, reset BIOS and graphics card is back. But this issue keeps coming back and since I'm not getting a refund I want to look a bit further if there are options to solve this without have the send it back for repairs, because clearly, it's not getting repaired.

What I tried:
  • Re-install windows
  • Update drivers & BIOS
  • Kept CLOSE track of temperatures (not going above 70°C in game)
  • SFC / DISM
  • Reset BIOS (briefly provides a "workaround")
  • Right now I just disabled NVIDIA High definition audio as I read somewhere that there might be an issue between nvidia and realtek audio. Not sure if it will change anything. But worth the try?
Thanks in advance
