Bluetooth 4.1 backwards compatibility?

Sorry if this post is not in the correct category but that is the closest i could find for my problem.

So Bluetooth 4.1 has been released for a while, and i have decided to buy a Bluetooth headset that has Bluetooth 4.1. But my laptop and my phone both have Bluetooth 4.0. So, my question is will this headset work properly with my devices or do i have to look for another one.
