Hello there,

I have recently come across a pickle of a situation regarding a bluetooth dongle, from ASUS, more specifically USB-BT400. The thing is, once every 1-2 minutes, i receive the following warning within event viewer, accompanied by the subsequent error:

Warning: The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode. The minimum required supported state mask is 0x2491f7fffff, got 0x1fffffff. Low Energy peripheral role functionality will not be available. EventID 34
Error: The Bluetooth driver expected an HCI event with a certain size but did not receive it. eventID 5
Information: Windows cannot store Bluetooth authentication codes (link keys) on the local adapter. Bluetooth keyboards might not work in the system BIOS during startup. eventID 18.

I have also updated BIOS version to latest, and the only change that has been made was for RAM speed (from 2500mhz to 3300mhz).

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, all software is up to date, including windows and everything, tried on another usb-drive, still the same error. I also use an XBOX one controller that once every 1-2 minutes disconnects randomly (which puts a damper on my fifa records ngl) and can't seem to find any solution to this. Also ran sfc /scannow that found corrupted files but fixed them so .. yeah

Right now i'm thinking one of three, if not all:

  1. Go check BIOS settings with google running (idk, maybe some usb sleep setting or something, that can be causing this?)
  2. Reinstall windows to version 1909 (that also some other people on microsoft forum suggested that is the "stable" version that can be causing this)
  3. Try with another headset, maybe the headset is the problem?! Idk

Thank you in advance for reading!

The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode. The minimum required supported state mask is 0x2491f7fffff, got 0x1fffffff. Low Energy peripheral role functionality will not be available
that means you controller wants better BT LE (bt 4.2), but your adapter doesnt supports it (bt 4.0), will just drain more battery from xbox controller, nothing else

The Bluetooth driver expected an HCI event with a certain size but did not receive it. eventID 5
comunication error between adapter/device, xbox controller isnt compatible with all bluetooth adapters, you can try updating xbox controller firmware which may improve compatibility

google search with xbox controller paired with BCM20702A (your BT dongle) results in other people mentioning unstable connectivity...so you will need different BT dongle

Windows cannot store Bluetooth authentication codes (link keys) on the local adapter. Bluetooth keyboards might not work in the system BIOS during startup. eventID 18.
not an error, it just means bluetooth device keys arent stored inside adapter...so devices wont work without bluetooth software stack (like in bios mentioned above)

Finally some specific information!

Ok so since 17 minutes ago, there has been a stable connection. As i'm reading this, error reappeared. This time using headset from JBL TUNE 570BT. This did not happen at all until yesteday, the dongle worked fine for 6-7 months and as i've read on google, it is pretty old (6-7 years). So basically with or without headset disconnecting randomly (happens only on desktop with the dongle, not on laptop with integrated bluetooth) will I need to purchase a newer version of BT dongle? 4.2 or newer and that should fix it? Or could I just revert to a more stable version of windows? I've come across a microsoft thread (link here) where someone mentions reinstalling all drivers. Or should I just go ahead with new dongle and save all the pain from reinstalling everything?

I do appreciate your detailed reply!
