Question Bluetooth earbuds question

I am having an issue with my new Bose SoundSport Free Bluetooth earbuds. They connect easily with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but will not work with my Windows 10 PC. I am using an ASUS BT-400 dongle for my Bluetooth adapter and when I have it search for my earbuds it finds them and says it connects. The earbuds will show in my list of audio items in the Bluetooth section. But when I try to use them to listen to stuff, they do not work. I have tried right-clicking on my sounds speaker icon and looking for them in the list but I do not see them listed. The list shows my Bose PC external speakers as the default playback device.

Have you tried the bluetooth headphone as the output device?
looks like windows is confused , try all the outputs - do any work?

Yes, I have tried using the bluetooth headset that is listed under playback devices by right-clicking the icon and choosing "connect" but nothing happens.
