Can't get bluetooth keyboard to connect properly.
(This didn't cause the problem, it is just a preface) I got a bluetooth keyboard and it kept
taking way too long to turn on after my computer shoved it into sleep mode to conserve power.
So I waded my way through many a forum to figure out how to keep it awake. I made it work they
way I wanted to and it was great. I love this keyboard. It is made by a brand nobody has ever
heard of and the instruction booklet is in no western languages so i can't read it. In fact I
think the whole thing is written in Chinese and Korean because I know enough Japanese to
recognize it and there isnt any. It is small, its black, the keys glow, and I don't have to
worry about wires, and it is ready to type whenever I am! Fantastic! So now that we all know
my unhealthy attatchment to this piece of electronics we can move onto the problem.
I plugged the reiever into a USB port and it lit up. After putting in the new batteries into
the keyboard I switched the power and I saw the light blink to show the keyboard was on. By
following diagrams in the booklet I was unable to read I figured out that I am supposed to plug
in the adapter and open my list of bluetooth devices. (There are already a couple of phones on
the list and they seem to be paired properly - once I plug in the reciever my bluetooth
headphones connect properly as well). I press and hold fn+9 for about 5 secs. So I do that
and the light on the keyboard starts blinking and the keyboard loads on my bluetooth list
saying ready to pair. I click pair and it tells me to enter a code intot he keyboard and press
enter. I do that and it says connected. But then I type there is no response. No letters, no
numbers, no alt-tab functionality - nothing. I know this keyboard worked before. It worked
long after I altered the settings to keep it from going to sleep also. So what is wrong here?
What else can I do besides get a new one?
Here's what I had to do too keep iy from going to sleep if anyone needs to know (it is from a
forum about some guy's mouse with the same problem:
1. Go to Device Manager in Control Panel
2. Open Bluetooth
2. Open Generic Bluetooth Adapter.
5. Go to the Power Management tab and switch off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power" (as the Apple Magic Mouse driver doesn't have this tab).
6. OK everything.
7. Search for services.msc via Charms/Search.
8. In the Programs list, click Services.
9. Double-click the Bluetooth Support service.
10. If the Bluetooth Support service is stopped, click Start.
11. On the Startup type list, click Automatic.
12. Click OK.
13. If you prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
I even tried removing the device from the bluetooth list and starting all over. Same result.
Oh, and I have the latest drivers. The only thing that has changed before these prioblems
started was that I switched which USB port the hub I am using was plugged into but I don't know
how this would make a diff given that the headphones still work.
So that leaves me with a keyboard which has fresh bayyeries, the indicator light appears when
it powers on or needs to pair (so I know at least the p and fn keys work) but it won't type and
the touchpad on it is nonresponsive. What's my next step, and what info did I leave out?
Thanks guys
