Question Bluetooth toggle not showing up, bluetooth hidden in device manager

I built my own PC 2 years ago. Mobo is Gigabyte b550 aorus pro AC.

I am not able to connect bluetooth devices because the toggle does not show.

I have tried running bluetooth troubleshooter. it told me my PC is not bluetooth compatible. This is untrue. I know for a fact my PC is bluetooth capable because the motherboard spec says so:

I checked my device manager. Bluetooth was hidden, so I had to view hidden items. It shows up as greyed out:

I did the whole services.msc thing and restarted bluetooth service. That did not fix the issue.

I downloaded the intel bluetooth installer from intel's website for BT-22.160.0-32-64UWD-Win10-11.exe and for BT-22.170.0-32-64UWD-Win10-11.exe. I uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted multiple times. Nothing. Bluetooth driver version still shows an old version even though the installer said it finished installing.

You can see in the above images that the driver version is still old.

Lastly, I tried using intel's easy driver update <Mod Edit> and that didn't do anything either. It found 1 update for wireless, installed it, still no difference.

Please advise. FWIW, when I first built the pc, bluetooth did not show, and I had to do some weird power trick where I held the power button down or something. This is not the same problem, but worth mentioning.

The bluetooth adapter on the motherboard has drivers on the gigabytes support page under drivers + than. WLAN-BT

But since you installed other drivers head to bluetooth and other devices click the plus sign to expand a list if any. If any devices there remove them all.

Than go to device manager remove all the bluetooth drivers there by right clicking on each one and select remove or uninstall.

Check for updates from windows updates if any install them. Check on your windows version. Make sure you have 20H2 installed.

You may have a Realtek bluetooth and not a Intel. You can check by downloading speccy and looking at the network tab information.

If speccy states Realtek than download that driver from the drivers link above. If Intel download that driver. Note the Intel driver only supports 20H2 version of windows 10.


I had a update that broke my bluetooth adapter driver on my win10 system. And the above it how I fixed it.

thanks man, actually, I just powercycled my PC. I shut down my PC, unplugged the power cable, and held the power button down for a few seconds. Then I replugged in the power cable and turned everything back on. Suddenly my bluetooth is showing up again (although really choppy quality).

As far as drivers go, I have realtek hardware for audio but the bluetooth dropdown says intel. so I believe its intel, but ill keep that tool in mind in case this happens again.

Than it's Intel. But the sound should not be choppy. I have not purchased built in bluetooth motherboards. What I have read though they can be problematic after windows updates.

If the choppy sound gets worse I suggest trying the gigabyte driver.
