Bluray file - file extension m2ts

Hello,
I copied 1 file from a blu-ray disc (belonging to my friend) to my notebook and is 46 gb size. i try to open the file using vlc, powerdvd 10, etc but i cant. says doesnot recognize format, etc ? The file has an extension .m2ts (mpeg-2 transport stream). How do i open the file to view in my notebook. The bluray disc was returned to my friend and he has left the country.

I trust that it wasn't from a retail DVD, as copyright infringement is against the forum Terms of Service.
