Board differences

Is there any differences between the 1961 (GAMES RESEARCH), 1976 (AH),
and the current board (not the appearances, but connections, sc, and
country names)?

I am looking to buy one of the ones with the wooden peices, but I just
wanted to make sure their were no major board differences.

There are no meaningful changes to the map.

For more on various Dip editions, see:

With the research I did for the DATC, I found no discussion on
the map. On some maps, some connections might be a little bit
unclear, but they are not disputed.

IIRC, there were some minor changes between the 1959 and 1961 editions.
(There is also an unauthorized Brazilian edition that has a couple of
key alterations (NAf is a supply center!). It's unlikely that you'll
ever encounter either of these. There have been no substantive changes
since 1961.

Aesthetically, the 1961 edition is far superior to the 1976 edition,
and infinitely preferable to the current monstrosity.

Also, the 1961 edition has the Caspian Sea pictured on it (though not a
"real" space), but this theoretically lets you build F Mos :)

Since that's the board I have and learned on, in my high school
club we DID allow people to build F Moscow. Of course you couldn't
move it anywhere, but could support it in place. For "collapsing"
Russias (and in our high school games, big expanding Russias and
collapses was a norm) they would sometimes be annihilated and
agree to do this, as a way of guaranteeing that a garrison on the other
side (English or Turkish) did not have to remain standing guard.

This is a fun way to play.
