I just bought a HGST Deststar NAS 6TB hard drive and my MSI 970a SLI Kratit Ed won't recognize the drive at all. I tried switching the Sata Modes to IDE and AHCI, but none work. I haven't tired RAID Mode yet.

OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit
MB: MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition
CPU: AMD FX-4350 Duel Core 4.2 Ghz
Ram: 16G

What I tried:
1. Installed Drive (Didn't Work)
2. Took all other drives out (Didn't Work)
3. Updated all MB Drivers and BIOS (Didn't Work)
4. Played with the Sata Modes [IDE and AHCI] (Didn't Work)
5. Switched Sata slots (Didn't Work)
6. Switch Sata cable to a 6g (Didn't Work)
7. Moved to Sata Port 2 (Didn't Work)

All Sata Ports and Cables seem to work fine all other drives.

All other drivers seem to be fine.
Seagate 2TB x3
and
WB 320g

Is this a BIOS Configure problem, bad hard drive or something else.

Update: I think its a bad Hard Drive.
Reasons:
1. Windows takes forever to load when its plugged in.
2. Heard a small clucking sound when i first plugged it in. (Didn't know if it was part of the sounds it made normally)
3. Plugged into another computer and did the same thing.

Still would like your thoughts before I ask for a replacement.

Welcome to the community, draco69cd!

You did an awesome job with the troubleshooting so far! It does seem like the HDD is most likely faulty. However, there's one last thing you could try if you have access to another computer, you could simply try plugging the 6 TB drive there and see how it will behave. If it still gives you the same bad performance and effect on the other system, then you should most definitely get in touch with the manufacturer's customer support and send your RMA request. They should be able to provide you with a replacement soon enough.

Best of luck! :)
