Boom arm can't attach on desk... *help?*

So basically I can't attach my boom arm to the side of my desk. I can but there is very little room to attach too. There are two layers and my attachment can't go to the bottom one. When I attach the boom arm to it, it is not balanced and falls. Here's a picture.

Sorry, but that attachment is not going to fit on the side of that desk. Does the back end of the desk provide a wider ledge for the attachment?

What will this arm be supporting?
You might remove the chrome clamp assembly and screw the holder, top and bottom directly to the desk.

Not gonna work with that desk, unless you get the saw out.
