Boosters for switches on an ethernet network

How can I get quicker logins on my network? I have multiple switches in a computer lab - 7 that attach to a larger switch which goes back to a switch then to the server.

What type of network, what type of login, what type of switch, what os? How long are the logins? What would you consider acceptable. There are a lot of questions and even with all the answers you might just consider someone to take care of that problem hands on.
