Boot a laptop ssd in a desktop (w/o losing data)

I have a Lenovo z500 with windows 8.1 and an HP z600 desktop workstation with windows 7.
When I put the SSD of the Lenovo in the Desktop (removing the desktop one first and then setting the laptop as boot drive) the OS doesn't boot up and it remains in the bios screen showing "booting from hard drive" and that's it.
What do I have to do in order to make that SSD boot on the desktop properly? Do I have to install the desktop drivers on the SSD and then trying to boot? Or there's no way to do that? Thanks.

You can't legally use the Windows version from the laptop in the desktop. AND You can't practically use the laptop Windows on the desktop because the laptop Windows registry has hardware configuration info for the laptop that doesn't match the desktop.
You could add the lenovo SSD as a data disk if you want to get data off of it. You could install the SSD and do a clean OS install, which will wipe out the data on the SSD. Those are your choices.
