Hey guys,

troubleshooting question for ya. Doing a build for my buddy and everything seemed to be going smooth but getting the CPU light error on the EZ debug portion of the motherboard after full installation.

So here's the strange part. The error only occurs when the heatsink is fully installed. If we remove the heat sink (back mounting bracket and standoffs still in place), the computer will POST normally.

Have tried multiple variations including: heat sink portion placed on top of processor and computer will still POST

Screwed in X-bracket for cooler without heat sink and will POST normally

Even placed heat sink on and applied pressure to top and computer POSTs

The problem only occurs when the x-bracket is screwed in while being attached to the heat sink. (the CPU light remains lit on the EZ debug). Even if only 1 screw is very slightly tightened this happens. Checked for bent CPU pins and didnt see any. Totally confused. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Solution
Probably improper installation of the cooler.
Too much pressure on the socket will cause wrong contact between socket pins and cpu.

Read cooler manual with instructions, how to properly install it.

And do not start pc without cpu cooler. You can kill your cpu this way.

How dif you solve that issue? I'm having the exact same problem. Got an 8700k to run on a gigabyte aorus z370m and i'm not able to post with dual channel with Hyper 212x! In fact it just plain kills one memory channel (two upper slots). Only way to use the computer is either with a Intel Stock cooler or single channel..

Did you follow instructions in CPU cooler installation manual?
Probably spring-screws got over-tightened.

I believe so...as I've been using this cooler without issues since my previous build (aquired it more than a year ago). Also i've tried reinstalling it to no avail. Stock cooler works like a charm but my cpu runs really hot. I've ordered a Gammaxx 400 and i'm really hoping it will work.. Still my Hyper 212x is only 19 months old. Some of the screws on it are a bit rusty can that be the issue?

I've found the solution! The issue was that 3 out of 4 HSF stands where not with their insulation protection thus causing some kind of short on 1 Memory channel! I've aquired some rubber washers (o-rings) and everything is working like a charm now!
