Boot loader corrupted or motherboard broken?

I keep getting a problem where my computer boots up and the screen is black with a blinking curser on the left, can't type anything. Normally I would say its just a boot loader problem, but when I go to press f12 on my motherboard, or f9 for that matter I can hardly ever get the bios or boot order screen to come up. I suppose it could be both, but it seems unlikely. Also is there any way to download just the repair part of the windows 7 rc candidate cd, I can't seem to find mine. Well actually I thought I found mine but upon the couple of times I have been able to tell it to boot up from the cd, it says I need the installation disc so I assume its the wrong one.

hi kelloggs
checksum errors are usually to do with the battery on the mobo , I had one go recently , even with a new battery , mine wouldnt work , its like everytime the pc boots it has all its setttings lost ... try a new battery
m/b, PSU, HDD or RAM problem.

Disconnect Your HDD and try to run memtest from CD with only one stick of RAM at the time making sure that RAM is set up to the specs. Full specs and other info like if this is new built or old PC stopped working would be helpfull as well. Post back withresults.

Other thingds would be test Your RAM in another PC and try another PSU.

pulled out the ram and put it back in earlier, after I let the computer sit over night it can get into the f12 boot options, however when I put in the cd that I thought was my windows 7 rc cd, yes I should have labeled it it says something about the checksum being corrupted.

found my other windows 7 cd, and it does the same things says checksum error, so I tried to just put in Ubuntu cd so I could just clear the hard drive and start form scratch.

When I booted to the cd it came up and it doesn't matter if I put install Ubuntu or or if I put try Ubuntu without any changes, there is a message on my screen that comes up after that selection, it goes to the black screen with blinking cursor on the top right, then it reads
-crc error
system haulted

oh ya the system is less than one year old, have not changed any memory cpu or vga settings in the bios, no overclocking going on
