Build:
CPU: i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0
MOBO: GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 250GB SATA III
HDD: WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s
PSU: CORSAIR RMx RM850X 850W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular
GPU: ATI 5880 (was installed until I bought a 980 next week)

System ran great for about a week. Last Sunday, while playing a newly installed game, I noticed the game started freezing for a few seconds, textures would reload, and game start playing again. This happen a few more times before a complete lockup. I have not been able to access bios or windows after the lockup.

The debug window on the motherboard gets to "35" during boot, sits at 35 for about 30 seconds, and resets. The computer is stuck in this loop. The Gigabyte manual lists "35" as "CPU PEI Initialization"

I have removed each piece of hardware, one at a time, testing the boot after each piece was removed without change. Also, reseated RAM, alternating a stick in every slot, and cleared CMOS via Clear CMOS button and removing system battery for two minuets without change.

When I get home I'm going to reseat the CPU, check the pins on the mobo, and find a way to test out the PSU, but if neither fix the issue I'm guessing the mother board is bad?

Solution
i have a z170x gaming 7 and I can't get windows 7 installed. every time i run the gigabyte image tool it fails to load the drivers onto my usb drive. the OS will expand and install and the system restarts but then blue screens with a message about a virus or data corruption on the hd. Did any other Z170 Gaming MB owners have a similar experience?

Very true. I'm down to the CPU and the mobo. Tested all other hardware. The issue I'm having now Is finding a 6th gen mobo or 6th gen CPU to test the final two pieces.

I have tried to clear the Cmos. The mobo has a Clr_Cmos button, battery to remove, and Cmos jumper. I tried the button and removing the battery last night. No change in boot. I also reseated the CPU and checked for bent pins in the seat.
