Boot manager missing
New MBA asus M5a97
New processor Am FL 4350
Using the asus recover disks from previous mother board
I can get to BIOS but no further.
get a Boot Manager Missing error.
PLEASE HELP A POOR OLD MAN

The reason you get the message has to do with with the type of interface that was used with the HD`s in the system.

In the bios you have the interface mode type each optical drive or HD uses.
If you are putting the disk in the drive and it is asking you to press any key to boot it is because of this.

If you look in the bios at the interface mode you can have four options.
The first is IDE not that common now on new boards.
Second is Ahci mode.
Third is Sata mode.
And the fourth is Raid mode to be used with a minimum of two drives setup, and formatted by an extended bios option on posting/ powering the system on.

If the mode of the interface in the bios is set to Sata change it to Ahci mode, save the new settings before exiting the bios.
If the disk boots it was the problem.

Some recovery disks, are not what we call boot able, but must be run within a windows environment for the process to start. the recovery disks point to a hidden partition that was setup on the hard drive where the rest of the install of windows is completed from there.

If you used the old hard drive out of that system it will likely not work for two reasons.
Because the version of windows is for the old motherboard and pre configured with drivers for that board.
The end result would be a crash of the system and windows throwing a hiss y fit with the new board.

If the drive is new, and the disks you have are just to start a recovery then you dont have the image for recovery or re install os the windows OS.

Like I said try changing the interface mode in the bios.
Just one other thing, if you had two drives in the old system, and moved them over to a new one.
It may be likely that the drives were set up as a Raid 0 array.
There fore If the drives still contained a working os in the bios you must ensure Raid mode is enabled when trying to boot from the drives set up in Raid mode or you also get a message of boot manager missing.
