I am having a problem with the boot-up of my PC. The boot process gets stuck
at "CHECKING MEMORY" at "1088" then continues and finds the rest of the 1
Gig of DDR RAM in the system.

This problem has been going on now for a week or so, where I have seen the
boot process get stuck at checking memory but at another number (20??) I
don't remember the exact number.

I have also had a problem with the booting process where it goes through
loading Windows 2000 and then reboots. I have tried a number of things
like - re-flash the BIOS, and even changed the power-supply. I have even
take out one of the 512MB DDR RAM cards and changed them. STILL the problem
does no go away.

The configuration of this PC is:

AMD 2500 XP CUP
A-Bit KD7A motherboard
Windows 2000 with all the updates from Microsot
ATI 7500 Graphics AGP adapter

Thanks for any light you can shed on this problem, or any help you can
offer.

Ted M.

If you have two slots of ram, remove one and try again.

May be a failing piece of ram.

Alternativley, run memcheck or similar off a floppy.

I have taken out the two 512Mb DDR RAM cards and tried with each of the two
cards in the RAM slot - NO CHANGE in error!!!!

I also have re-flashed the BIOS to see if it was being caused by a
corrupted/broken BIOS - NO CHANGE in error.

I am still looking for help on this issue.

Thanks,

Ted M.
