Boot up issue

Boot problem: I was deleting a few shortcuts on my desktop, when the pc locked up. CTRL, ALT, DLT, nothing worked so I shut it down and powered back. It would make it to the "Starting Windows" screen and then just stop. The hard drive indicator light is lit solid. To make a long story short, I eventually started disconnecting hard drives. I have 2, an SSD for the operating system, and a WD 500 GB for storage. With both connected, it goes to the "starting windows" screen and stops. Once, while it was at this point, I disconnected the cable from the WD to the motherboard, and, amazingly, the boot up continued and the pc started normally!! Everything works fine. There is just no F drive (the WD drive).

So what's going on? Why does the WD drive have to be connected and then disconnected to get the pc to boot?

Solution
Hi there wcmlsx,

I assume that the problematic drive is internal as you haven't mentioned otherwise.
I would advise you to start with something simple like just switching the cables and connect the HDD to another port. If this does not help, you can go to BIOS and see whether the hard drive is in the boot order and disable it if it is.
If the computer still can not boot up with the drive attached, you can try connecting it through USB when the computer has already booted(USB to SATA adapter/ some kind of external enclosure). If it gets recognized by Disk Management, you can run Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see whether the test results will provide some more information on the issue.
