Question Boot up problem! Need Help diagnosing!

This has been going on for over a year and I'm getting tired of it. About 50% of the time when i boot up my desktop, I get the black screen of unable to boot. So then I unplug the power and SATA cord from the secondary drive. It then boots up properly off the SSD. I shut down. Replug in the power and SATA cord to the secondary drive. and it boots up fine. Like clockwork this works everytime. But what in the world could be causing this problem? Power supply?!?

full system spec? include make and model of the psu

power supply is way over-powered for this system.

PSU is a Corsair CX750M

24gb ram ddr3
mobo is AM3+ gigabyte board
AMD FX6300 6 core processor 3.5ghz
nvidia geforce GTX 960
and then just a SSD, SATA drive and DVD drive.

nothing crazy..

I did have to replace the PSU years ago, shortly BEFORE this started happening.
