Hi all,
I've spent the past day and a half trying to figure out how to upgrade my 128GB SSD to a 256GB SSD on my Lenovo T420S laptop, and getting a teensy bit frustrated at this point.
Here's what I've done so far:
-Used EaseUS Partition Master to clone the old SSD to the new one. The primary partition drive letter changed from C: to D:. This also created about 110GB of unallocated space in a non-adjacent partition to the primary partition
-To merge the primary partition (D
with the unallocated space, I used Aomei Partition Assistant Home Edition. So now the D: drive has about 220GB capacity
-At this point, I just tried swapping out the SSDs and putting the new hard drive to the top of the boot order, but the computer didn't boot up. It would just stay on a black startup screen.
-After reading some more, I downloaded the ISO for Windows 7 Pro SP1 and used Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool to put the installation files onto a flash drive.
-Also note that my BIOS is already in ACHI mode since the previous hard drive was also a SSD
-So I plug in the new SSD as the internal hard drive and plug in the flash drive. I change the boot order so it boots from the flash drive. I choose 'Repair', and it says there's an error it needs to fix, so I fix it. After it restarts, I run 'Repair' again and choose my ~220GB D: drive as the one with Windows. It repairs and can't find any errors.
-Next, I take out the flash drive and change the boot order to move the new SSD to the top position. It still can't boot and stays stuck in a startup screen.
I feel like I've checked all the forums here and elsewhere for answers, but can't find anything. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
