Not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but it seems the most appropriate.

Here's the problem I hope you guys might be able to help me with:

There are three things going on, which I suspect are all interrelated. This is what might happen:

1) Turn the PC on. It goes straight into standby mode as if the GPU is broken, or not present.

2) POST detects the CPU but where it should say how much memory is installed, and speed, it either says "None", or some random nonsense such as:

CHS, SATA23, 189GB
CHS, SATA192, 3303MB

There are a few others along those lines and this is the most common of the three.

3) It POST's but when it comes to booting from the HDD or CD it hangs with a flashing cursor.

None of these errors, if you want to call them that, produce POST beeps.

Whichever one happens, a quick reset, or a couple of resets, usually fixes it. Either way, once it starts loading windows it's absolutely fine. No further problems. Reseting the PC from Windows is also fine.

I've opened it up and had a good look around. Nothing seems out of place, loose, corroded etc etc. I've also tested the PSU and that checks out.

I'm tempted to think it's the motherboard, but unfortunately I don't have another I can try.

The PC is nearly two years old.

Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The PC finally died this morning. It just beeps at me. One long, two short, so a graphics card problem. I've tried my spare card and it does the same, so I know there's nothing wrong with the cards. Time for a replacement MB me thinks :(
