Hay everyone

Used this site for years has great info so I have finally made an account and this is my first post :)

My issue is, I have a laptop with windows 10 home installed (all legit), I wanted to replace the laptop hdd with an ssd and put the original hdd in an enclosure to use as an external hdd.

This all went well put the hdd in the enclosure and went to boot windows 10 from the now externall hdd and end up getting an error saying unable_to_access_boot_media, I have had automatic repair come up but does not fix the issue.

The external hdd uses a USB 3.0 connections so as suggested in another post I turned the BootDeviceFlag to 0x14 to load the USB 3.0 drivers early but this has not fixed the issue either.

Anyone have any suggestion on where to go from here?

Thanks

Greetings, peklo:

I hope you've solved your problem by now, but if not you might consider this:

You can't use an external HDD for your OS. I tried it myself and got a similar message. Upon reflection, I can understand why as it would allow users to move any OS freely around from one PC to another, and no manufacturer would want that.

If you want to an external Windows OS, there is a portable version but it's only available as a Windows 10 Pro licence.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.
