About a week ago my computer started randomly restarting every 2 to 30 minutes.

I then updated all my drivers, scanned for any viruses and found nothing. I then booted my computer in Safe mode and suprisingly it didnt restart.

Then I went to reinstall Windows and while doing so my computer restarted twice.

My temperatures are normal, I have a program on my desktop which constantly monitors the temperature and nothing is abnormal.

These restarts aren't blue screens containing any error message but just instead the screen goes black and the computer restarts.

I then opened my computer , completely unplugged the power and gently cleaned it of any dust incase that had any chance of being the problem. Then when I started it up only the Power Supply fan ran and nothing else.

After about a week of letting it sit , I turned it on and to my surprise all the fans were running and no restarts occured. However I did need to reinstall Windows though since my failed attempts a week prior when it restarted during the installation. However after getting a little bit through the installation process I am getting a "BootMgr is missing" error.

So should I still look into a new Psu or should I look into other possible causes.

I tried to run repair from my Windows 7 CD but it didn't have the option. I also tried repairing through F8 and still didn't have the option.

Your help and suggestions would be very much appreciated!

However after getting a little bit through the installation process I am getting a "BootMgr is missing" error.

This happens if you have two or more drives with a system reserve (100mb) partition on them in a PC. You need to go into Disk Management and delete the reserve partition from the non OS drive.

You might have to put the drive in another PC to do this.

Do you think the drive maybe went bad which caused the random restarting?
