I've barely looked into the editor, so I'm not quite up to the task
myself....

How hard would it be to change the boots of blinding speed to shoes of
blinding speed? It seems to me this would be a more balanced situation for
most players, to have no armor rating at all on them, rather than a light
rating that's always getting shredded. I looked for this mod, but couldn't
find it.

Cheers,
Walt

What are you fighting that you're getting your boots shredded all the time?
In my experience, there are only a few monsters that ever attack your feet -
Scribs, Kwama Foragers, Rats, and Mudcrabs, all of which do crab for damage.
The only times I've ever broken my Boots of Blinding Speed was when I was
either levitating or up-slope from a very powerful melee enemy, or more
often several of them. Of course, you notice this more with these boots,
due to the complicated process you have to go through to put them on without
being blinded.

My biggest complaint about them is that whenever a monster hits you with a
Drain Speed attack, (Bonelords seem to do this most often), you can't
restore your speed back up to full again unless you take the boots off,
restore, and then put them back on. Of course, the difference between 300
speed and 287 speed is pretty much negligible, but I don't like walking
around with reduced stats, and it's still a real pain to have to go through
to fix it in this case.

I just created a set of glass boots with the same spell. They look much
better and matched the rest of my set of glass armor.

It's been my experience that in a melee my armor takes damage across the
board. Maybe it's my tendency to take on guys that are bigger than I am
(since I favor wood elves, they're almost *all* bigger than I am), but I've
often gone into a fight wearing the boots, and come out barefoot.

Weird. I fight all the most powerful monsters all the time, and my boots
never take any damage whatsoever, unless I'm fighting up-slope from them or
levitating. The rest of my armor needs regular repair, but the boots seem
to not get damaged at all under normal circumstances.

That is weird. My boots (of any type) never take as much damage as some of
the other armor parts, but they regularly need repairing. With the BBS,
it's a problem because they're not very robust to begin with.

I'm currently playing an unarmored character, and could really use the extra
speed.

I think that any spell (such as a fireball) does damage to all of your
armor. Of course attacks while you are swimming are going to hit all of
your armor also. Plus if you are looting temples a lot you are going to
be above your opponents quite often.

Look for the skywalker boots at lowgenius.com (it's under games -
morrowind; I haven't spent enough time at my own site lately to give you a
direct URL right now). IIRC I put a pair of shoes in my Mage Enhancements
mod that do the same thing (also, no 'blinding' part!)
