Borderlands 2 Disk space?

So the steam page says that borderlands 2 requires 20gb of free space, but once I activated my product code from amazon it said that the install for the game would only use a little over 7gb of free space, is this normal?

That is true, but after patches, DLC, and save files, it can use up to 20. Its a large number to compensate.

Thanks for the answer, so what you're basically saying is that 20gb is gearbox's estimated amount once so many patches and dlc are available for the game?

I bought this game recently and I believe the Steam DL was around 12gb for the GOTY Edition, plus however much for the 2 pieces of DLC that are not included in GOTY (Headhunter 1 and ultimate vault hunter pack 2, I don't count the appearance mods real DLC). Depending on how many headhunter packs they decide to release I can see it getting close to the 20gb mark.
